How Do You Get Diagnosed With ADHD In Leeds as an Adult?
Receiving an ADHD diagnosis as an adult can be a challenging process, but it is a vital first step towards accessing the necessary help and support. If you suspect that you may have ADHD, it's essential to take the following steps to get an accurate diagnosis in Leeds:
Consult with your GP: The first step is to schedule an appointment with or contact your GP to discuss your symptoms and concerns. Your GP will be able to perform an initial evaluation and refer you to an appropriate healthcare professional for an ADHD assessment.
Complete diagnostic assessment: Whether you opt for an NHS or a private clinic, you'll need to undergo a specialist assessment by an ADHD expert to obtain an official diagnosis. This will involve a comprehensive evaluation, including a review of your medical history, symptoms, and behaviour, to establish whether there is a pattern of ADHD from childhood.
Treatment plan: Once you have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis, you can work with your doctor and your specialist to create a personalised treatment plan that works for you. This could include medication, counselling, or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
If you think you might have ADHD, take our self-assessment today to see whether or not you present key symptoms.

Comparing The NHS And Private ADHD Assessments Options In Leeds
Leeds has seen a similar trend to other parts of the UK in recent years, with a growing number of adults being referred for ADHD assessments by their GP. As a result, the waiting list for an assessment through the NHS in Leeds has also increased, with some patients waiting 3 years for their appointment. However, the advantage of the NHS option is that it is free for those who are eligible for NHS care.
On the other hand, private ADHD assessments in Leeds can be quite expensive and may not be covered by insurance. The cost of a private assessment can vary depending on the practitioner and the type of assessment, but on average, it could set you back around £945.
Deciding between NHS and private assessments will depend on an individual's personal circumstances and priorities. If you're able to wait for the NHS, it may be the more affordable option. But if you're willing and able to pay the cost, a private option may be a better choice to avoid long waiting times.
To be honest, neither option is ideal, in my opinion. Waiting for an assessment for months or even years can be frustrating and disruptive to a person's daily life.
However, there are alternative solutions for managing ADHD symptoms while waiting for an official diagnosis.

Waiting for an official diagnosis of ADHD can be a difficult and frustrating experience, with daily struggles in focus, organisation and time management taking a toll on your mental well-being and leaving you feeling overwhelmed. In conclusion, it is essential for adults with suspected ADHD to receive a proper diagnosis from an accredited practitioner. When seeking an ADHD assessment in Leeds and Yorkshire, it is important to remember you can either be referred to the NHS and wait for 3 years or take your referral to a private ADHD clinic and pay close to £1000 for an initial assessment.
So, take the time to consider your choices, expand your understanding of ADHD, and choose the best option for your individual needs. Remember that taking care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, is key throughout this process. With the right support, you can overcome the challenges of ADHD and live a fulfilling life.
My best suggestion for additional support is to try a natural supplement such as one of the Brainzyme® FOCUS™ formulas to help you manage your ADHD symptoms while waiting for an official diagnosis. With the right resources and support, it is possible to manage ADHD and lead a fulfilling life.
